Help — Bladder Infections

Question:

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi, I have question I hope somebody will be able to help me out with. My wife keeps getting re-occurant bladder infections. We do NOT know why they keep occuring. She has a preventive program that she follows, yet every other month or so, another appears. She takes 2000 mgs of cranberry pills, 3000 mg of Vit-C, 1000 mg of Cat;s Claw, daily. She is also an athlete so her diet is very low in caffeine and sugar. She does take priobiotics (maxidophoulous) a few times a week also.

These bugs live in average PH, not too acid, not to alkaline.  To kill them one has to create an environment that is either too acid or too alkaline.  Your wife is creating an acid environment with the cranberry pills, and that’s what a lot of people talk about.  But for many people the opposite is effective: creating an alkaline environment.  It is the treatment recommended by the rather famous urologist Larian Gillespie. I have had interstitial cystitis for 25 years plus occasional new infections.  At the first sign of a new bacterial infection coming I take BAKING SODA.  I have the cheap arm and hammer box.  I dissolve 1-2 teaspoons in water and take it every 2-3 hours.  In a day or so the problem is gone without antibiotics.  I am amazed because it always works, and when I used to take cranberry juice it never did me any good. Baking soda can produce diarrhea and some bloating, but it passes and it’s nothing compared to the benefits.  It’s not good to use it permanently on a daily because it may damage the stomach by causing it to create too much acid.  But it’s certainly a great medicine to use for cures. Your wife should stop the cranberry business to do this, since they are antagonistic in terms of the PH. For long-term maintenance I take 6-8 capsules of freeze-dried aloe vera every day.  In the last 3 years that i have done this, interestitial cystitis pain has certainly gone down.  But also, the frequency of infections has been reduced to once every 1-2 years.  That I found amazing. So, this is my advice.  Try baking soda

Hi Berry Sounds like your wife is taking all the right supplements. A few extra suggestions: Urinary tract infections can easily be caused by vigorous sexual intercourse. You can try using extra lubrication such as astro glide or a similar product, sold in drugstores near the condoms. Also, its a good idea for your wife to urinate soon after sex. She may also wash externally, very gently, with pure soap and water, or just water. You can consider a bidet for her to use regularly, to keep the area extra clean of bacteria. Also, she might consider taking a change of underwear and shorts for halfway through her workouts, to keep the area as clean and dry as possible, to make as poor an environment for bacteria as possible. Finally, she should be drinking and drinking and drinking water – at least 2 litres a day. Hope this helps Carol Distributor of Chitosan The natural source fibre that absorbs the fat from the food you eat. http://www.io.org/~shodan/chitosan.htm

I, too, suffer from recurrent infec. as this. My regimen (and I’ver been symptom free for quite a while) is: (NOT to get too personal) 1.  Lots of water (I drink home distilled) before and after sex, urinate right after. 2. cranberry juice not pills, the pills did me no good. 3. watermelon & juice. 4. pantiliners non-deodorant. 5. plain non-fat yogurt from a health food store or Dannon. Hope this helps, if not maybe a urine culture is needed?

I have suffered from bladder infections for 20 years. They didn’t stop until I was diagnosis with Lupus and was put on   predisone. I’ve NEVER had one since (it’s been three years!!)  I got 10 to 12 attacks a year. I was looking into having my bladder removed! What your wife probably has is Intercysticial cystitis.  Which is an inflammation of the bladder lining. Does she test negative when she has an attack?  But, the doctors give her antibiotics "Just in case" ? The predisone therapy is extreme, but I’m pain free and so should your wife!
