"haloe"effect hair loss

Question:

Does anyone have any good links to share with me, or could explain to me in detail about the haloe effect hair loss in lupus?…….thanks, Pebs

Response:

Hi Pebs, You know me, no links to offer. I can tell you a bit about hair loss. Almost all of my hair fell out the last time I was ill. I loose a lot every time it seems. My hair loss is an all over general thinning. The hair also breaks off. I think what you are referring to is male pattern baldness. This, I think, is what is seen in patients on high amounts of prednisone. Someone will have a link for you. I am just filling in until the clever ones reply. Hi there, I don’t know of any links either. What exactly is the halo effect? My hair fell out around the hairline & grew back a different texture. But it DID grow back & it’s mostly underneath so it’s not visible. It breaks easily tho. Arthritis (& lupus) can damage hair follicles which makes hair fragile. Andy, I’m talking about the hair on my head, not the skin on my face. Shar Pei just might fit for the latter. You just had to mention it. BJ "Andy" <a…@kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk> wrote in message

Hi Candy, i recently read somewhere, the Haloe effect is where the hair thins and breaks off around the face hair line yes.  From what i hear, its not really breakage, more so new hair that grows that just stays short and doesn’t get longer…somewhat posted it on another site, will have to look again…but i don’t have that much info about it, that’s why i thought i would ask. > Hi there, I don’t know of any links either. Hi Pebs, I neglected to mention something about hair loss. I used to have a head of hair like an Old English Sheep dog. The hairdresser used to have to thin it out. It fell out until I looked like a Chinese Crested dog. It always grows back. I just got it trimmed, and the hairdresser commented on how much it has filled in and grown. I will soon look like a Collie. Good thing I got it cut. It may never be quite as thick as it was, but it is a normal head of hair and it looks healthy again. Now, you won’t have a clue what I am talking about unless you know your dogs. You may have to go on the internet to look them up. And no, I don’t have any links for you.Are you having problems with hair loss? Smiles, BJ "Pebs" <pebbbl…@hotmail.com> wrote in message

You’ll be referring to the links in my signature. The main source of lupus info there is the LUPUS-UK factsheets, in which I have found: Hair loss Hair loss is one of the most important features of active lupus. It may be the first manifestation of the disease and is often first noticed by the patient as hair on the pillow. In some cases hair loss is patchy and even extreme. Fortunately, in the vast majority of patients the hair re- grows after successful treatment, though hair regeneration is often notoriously slow. What happens to the hair in Lupus? The hair often thins and can become patchy when lupus is active. It will usually regrow as the disease is bought under control. This is not the case in discoid lupus as already discussed when the scars left by the skin rash leave permanent bald areas. Sometime drug treatment can make the hair thin in lupus patients. This is known to happen in some people with steroid treatment and in most people when cytotoxic drugs such as cyclophosphamide are used. In both cases the hair should regrow when the drug is discontinued. — Andy [Editor, Austrian Philatelic Society] For Austrian philately <URL:http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk/austamps> For Lupus <URL:http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk/lupus> For my other interests <URL:http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk>
