Question:
Hi Janers, Thanks for the advice and info. Hope the extra oral medrol puts you right..and best wishes for the procedure on Monday. Try not to think about it over the weekend, but that’s probably hard. No idea what my doc was thinking by prescribing 40 mg instead of more. Had just finished telling him more pain, more sites, and he gives me less prescription. Can’t diss him here coz he once told me he knows about Usenet (could be lurking). The doc who gives the injection will only give it in a place that’s been scanned…(ie my shoulder). I asked about my thumb and the x-ray showed nothing, they said. So why’s it hurt so bad and swollen..feels like the bone is swollen at the base. *sigh* So no dropping pants LOL even tho my butt bones and tailbone hurt . You are hilarious….love your posts. YES! The last time I was in the hospital they had me on IV Steroids for over a week at 100mg (plus all the other goodies).Sent me home with PO steroids and I relapsed. They had to rush me back to the hospital the very NEXT day. Re-hooked me up with a higher dose of steroids for another week. Sent me home on a higher PO dose and eventually contributed it to the Lupus getting worse and a really bad flare. I certainly hope this is NOT the case with you!!!! As for the tech mixing up the saline with the medrol…hey I’ve heard of crazier things happening. Might want to run this by your Rheumy,Especially if you are not seeing a difference. Wouldn’t want a flare to get out of control. I’ll be thinking about you. :^) Sonja – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -"Janers" <rojak…@bright.net> wrote in message <news:KX3y8.1498$a3.177425@cletus.bright.net>… > Hi > I went to the rheumy monday, in a flare as you all know. Hi I went to the rheumy monday, in a flare as you all know. But this is really weird now. I got a shot of depo medrol 80 mg in the ( you all know where LOL).. well after USUALLY getting these shots I have a flused face, and energy from now where land. Pain generally leaves too and site where the shot was put in should be sore. WRONG. I feel absolutely nothing. I mean that. Nothing. I still have the joint pain in the feet. sweats, fever on and off, and NO energy, no pain in the site. NOTHING> I can not figure it out. I am thinking now. did this tech, who pulled out the vial of saline, and vial of depo medrol really mix this stuff up. Or did she and then go for the syringe and extract just the plain saline (salt water for injections sorry) nurse talk LOL. I can not believe this. I have had right in the joint shots that I reacted to and this is el zippo. anyone ever have this happen to? I am calling my rheumy tomorrow, cause I do not want to be having all this crap too on top of the dilation monday. I have no clue as to why this is going on? Any ideas people thanks janers

Hi Janers, My first injection was in the joint, big pain at the site for 2 days, relief of the injection pain and original pain started within 2 or 3 days. The 2nd shot (not sure if in the joint or muscular), no or little pain at the site, but if I recall, the pain relief took longer to kick in. (just can’t remember because it was so subtle). When I look up intra-muscular and DM in Google archives, on the arthritis newsgroup, they say "slow release" and "takes about a week" (for pain relief to start). http://groups.google.com/groups?as_q=depo%20medrol%20intra%20muscular… Maybe your flare this time was worse? AND/OR Maybe it’s because it’s not been a week? Not sure what the rheumy can do at this point? Wouldn’t it be better to get clarification from the tech? Or are they both in the same office? Also are you sure it was 80 mg? Mine (injectress) said 100 mg in joint, but 50 mg in the soft tissue. In fact, my doc just gave me a prescription to go get injected next week and it’s only 40 mg !!! So do they taper down in each subsequent injection? Let me know what they tell you, ok?. I won’t get the ask these questions when they give the injection, because she’s squeezing me in between rounds and a meeting and I promised I would walk in, display my shoulder and keep my mouth zipped. a "quickie" LOL http://www.hamline.edu/~wnk/lupus/articles/Steroids_in_the_Treatment_… Hugs J – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Janers wrote: > Hi > I went to the rheumy monday, in a flare as you all know. Hi Janers, I have never had it done intermuscularly. I always get IV therapy. My B-12 injection is done that way though. Sometimes it is fine. Other times my arm gets sore. The same nurse usually does it, so I don’t know why there would be a difference. BJ-who got shot-up yesterday and has no pain "Janers" <rojak…@bright.net> wrote in message

Think I would call and talk to the doc. Mine usually kick in after 24 hrs. I usually get 80 mg in each hippo, I also have had the joint injections. Those hurt like the dickens! Not to say that they don’t "sting" in the el butto! But not as bad. Call the doctors sweetie. So you can feel better. Wende "Janers" <rojak…@bright.net> wrote in message

Well I called the doctor, now she is upping my oral medrol as well. She just said it was the lupus and try the oral till I see her in a 2 weeks. It was indeed 80mg of depo medrol. There are other cortisone shots, celestone is one of them, some of them come in 100mg but depo medrol does not, unless you want to add it to the already 80mg vial and mix a little LOL. I usually have instant relief with in 24 hours and as far as my flare being the worse one. No, not really. I have had worse. Any shot IM takes awhile but it also has to do with the amount and dilution of the medications. With depo medrol it takes 6 to 48 hours to see effect of this medication. So I believe it should of "hit" me Wed for sure, Awe who the heck knows any more. Hey J, you HOPE that 40mg does you better than my 80mg did. And they do not taper down injections, they give them according to how bad your inflammation level is and my sed rate a few weeks before I was flaring was only 23. I am sure it is higher now. I had celestone shot once and within 12 hours boom, I could tell. That stuff is good stuff LOL. Oh and J, don’t display any shoulder, YOU drop your pants and let them get the buns. Those shots are suppose to hurt and in the arm is not a good place for that ouchy… So will try upping the medrol by pill for awhile and pop the pain pills. Wait for monday for the ballon and go from there. Man I wish that last part was over, scares me a little since that last time I came off the table in pain. whoa nellie hugs to all janers
