Question:
I can’t provide clinical evidence, but my rheumy told me that a virus, trauma or other bodily insult can be a trigger in susceptible people. I’ve had unexplained symptoms and health problems since my teens, and I can point to the times that things got worse: after having chicken pox, after having mono, during and following pregnancy, after a car accident and after getting 5ths disease. I can’t get to my copy of THE LUPUS BOOK at the moment, but it seems to me that Dr. Wallace talks about this issue. He’s considered the authority, so you might check his latest edition out. It has tons of information. Gretchen Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Echoing gretchen but more empatically. Absolutely to the first quesiton. Any trauma, illness, stress, etc seems to be able to trigger new symptoms. As far as clinical evidence… try PubMed. You should be able to find PubMed with a simple search engine but if you have problems I have a link to it on my website (Lupus Links page). For anecdotal evidence (which is probably most of what you will find since it is very hard to point to causal factors with diseases like lupus) my sister began having symptoms shortly after a boat wreck and her doctors believed this was what triggered the Lupus. though of course, she may have developed the illness eventually regardless. my site http://www.ghg.net/schwerpt/mypage.htm (gee how original eh?) :)

For a long time I thought I had Lyme disease, since I did have a Lyme tick bite just before my first flare. But I also got pregnant just before the flare. That’s why everyone wrote off the symptoms, including myself. The Lyme tick carries several, as many as five different rheumatic kinds of infectious diseases. Of course pregnancy carries all those hormones that are supposed to set it off. This anecdote doesn’t help much! Barbara KC <kcdoc…@ghg.net> wrote in message

Can the arthritic symptoms of Lupus be brought on by Trauma. My wife fell over about 3 years ago and has had arthritis ever since. My wife was diagnosed with Lupus before this event but suffered no symptoms similar to arthritis!!!!!!!!!!! Can anybody provide clinical (or where I can find evidence) evidence for this weird scenario many thanks
